RESOLUTION NO. 9 8 897
A RESOLUTION, AUTHORIZING FUNDING FOR THE
COOL SCHOOL PROGRAM, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $42,000.00, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS
THEREFOR FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND,
PROJECT NUMBERS 690001, 690002, OR 690003,
SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY
THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA
STATE STATUTE, SECTION 932.7055, AS AMENDED,
AND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY,
"GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING."
WHEREAS, Florida State Statute, Section 932.7055, as
amended, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to
Equitable Sharing" authorize the expenditure of forfeiture
proceeds for law enforcement and anti -drug education purposes not
considered normal operating expenses; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department believes it is imperative
that youth be given positive incentive programs; and
WHEREAS, the Cool School Program to be implemented at Booker
T. Washington Middle School is an after -school program serving
at -risk children; and
WHEREAS, funds to cover this expenditure have not been
included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and
are available from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund,

Project Numbers 690001, 690002, or 690003; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of
this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed
comply with Florida State Statute, Section 932.7055, as amended,
and the U.S. Department of the Treasurys "Guide to Equitable
Sharing;"
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. Funding for the Cool School Program, in an
amount not to exceed $42,000.00, is hereby authorized, with funds
therefor hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement
Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, or 690003, such
expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as
complying with Florida State Statute, Section 932.7055, as
amended, and the U.S. Department of the Treasurys "Guide to
Equitable Sharing."
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective

1% If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at
the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.

It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution,
authorizing funding of the Cool School Program, and allocating funds therefor, in an amount not to
exceed $42,000.00. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from
Project Numbers 690001, 690002, or 690003.
BACKGROUND
The Miami Police Department supports programs such as those offered by the Cool School
program. The Cool School program is an after -school program serving at -risk children. This
program is to be implement at Booker T. Washington Middle School.

Cool School Program, in an amount not to exceed $42,000.00, complies with the provisions of
Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes, and the U. S. Department of the ffreasury's "Guide to
Equitable Sharing."
