Coonamoff MEETING OF S E P 0 9 1998 98- sr'i7 Honorable Members of TO the City Commission FRO Walter J. o City Clerk CITY OF MIAM1, FLORIDA 46 INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM DATE: August 6, 1998 FILE: SUBJECT: One Appointment Needed on the Bayside Minority Foundation REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: September 8, 1998 Agenda List of Members The Miami Bayside Minority Foundation was established to (a) create and administer a loan guaranty program for venture capital loans to minority business enterprises, (b) create a vocational/educational scholarship fund for minorities, and (c) provide technical assistance to local community development corporations engaged in economic development, such as the Miami -Dade County Chamber of Commerce and Latin Chamber of Commerce, in the form of management, legal, accounting, business development, such as counseling and training, and other related services; to assist community development corporations in developing adequate support systems; and the coordination and integration of resources toward economic development of minority business enterprises. One appointment is needed at this time due to a vacancy created when Rouse Company, the developer of Bayside, appointed Maria Cristina Barrios as one of its representatives on the board. Ms. Barrios had been appointed on April 10, 1986 by former Commissioner Rosario Kennedy as one of the five City representatives on said board. The members of the Bayside Minority Foundation were originally appointed in 1986. Each member of the City Commission nominated one individual. The terms are indefinite. For your information, attached please find a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the September 8, 1998 Commission agenda. This issue was previously deferred during the July 141h Commission meeting.
