RESOLUTION NO. - 7 917
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF AT
LEAST THIRTY SIX (36) CAIRNS THERMAL INFRA -RED
IMAGING SYSTEMS (IRIS) UNITS, WITH A TOTAL
ESTIMATED VALUE OF $30,000.00 EACH, FROM THE
HOOK & LADDER FOUNDATION; SAID CAIRNS IRIS
UNITS WILL BE USED BY THE MIAMI FIRE -RESCUE
DEPARTMENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM
ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR
ACCEPTANCE OF SAID CAIRNS IRIS UNITS.
WHEREAS, the Cairns Thermal Infra -Red Imaging Systems Unit
(IRIS) is a device which enables firefighters to see through
smoke, using technologically advanced equipment; and
WHEREAS, this device will be used by firefighters to save
lives and property; and
WHEREAS, the Hook & Ladder Foundation, in conjunction with
its sponsors, will supply thirty six (36) or more of the units to
the Department of Fire -Rescue at no cost to the City of Miami;
and
WHEREAS, each fire apparatus that carries the IRIS unit will
display a placard on its side, identifying the apparatus as IRIS
equipped, and duly recognizing the associated sponsor;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY

OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The donation of at least 36 Cairns Thermal
Infra -Red Imaging Systems (IRIS), with a total estimated value of
$30,000 each, from the Hook and Ladder Foundation is hereby
accepted, for use by the Department of Fire -Rescue.
Section 3. The City of Miami will acknowledge the receipt
of the Cairns (IRIS) by displaying a placard on the side of each
fire apparatus that indicates the apparatus is (IRIS) equipped
and that further identifies the associated sponsor.
Section 4. The City Manager is hereby authorized' to
execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, for acceptance of said Cairns (IRIS) units.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective

including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.

If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become
effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was
passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by
the City Commission.
