HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-98-0741J-98-873 7/20/98 RESOLUTION NO. 9 8 - 741 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A $50,000 DONATION FROM BRICKELLINVEST JOINT VENTURE, A FLORIDA GENERAL PARTNERSHIP, DEVELOPER OF THE BAYSHORE PALMS PROJECT, THROUGH THE DADE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION'S "CITY OF MIAMI CORPORATE CHALLENGE FUND" AT DADE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, TO BE UTILIZED FOR EXTENDING THE 1998 SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM SWIMMING POOL SEASON FROM AUGUST 22 THROUGH AUGUST 30, 1998, THE LAST DAY BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS; SAID FUNDS TO BE ALLOCATED TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT'S RECREATION ACTIVITY CONSOLIDATED ACCOUNT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO ACCEPT SAID DONATION. WHEREAS, the City of Miami acknowledges Brickellinvest Joint Venture for their contribution to the City's youth; and WHEREAS, Brickellinvest Joint Venture, through the Dade Community Foundation, has established the "City of Miami Corporate Challenge Fund" at Dade Community Foundation to deposit donations that may be made to the City of Miami Parks Department; and WHEREAS, this donation is earmarked for operating and maintaining the City of CITY CobMSSION MEETTNG OF PIL 2 1 1998 Besolutk= No. 98- 741 Miami's swimming pools for the children of Miami; and WHEREAS, this funding will allow us to extend the 1998 Summer Recreation Program Swimming Pool Season from August 22 ( original closing date) to August 30, 1998 (the last day before school starts); NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA; Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. A donation, in the total amount of $50,000, from Brickellinvest Joint Venture, a Florida general partnership, developer of the Bayshore Palms Project, through the Dade Community Foundation's "City of Miami Corporate Challenge Fund" at Dade Community Foundation, to be utilized for extending the 1998 summer recreation program swimming pool season from August 22 through August 30, 1998, the last day before school starts, is hereby accepted, said funds to be allocated to the Parks and Recreation Department's Recreation Activity Consolidate Account. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the necessary documents to accept said donation. Section 4. Warshaw Letter dated May 28, 1998 City Manager ENCLOSURES: Proposed Resolution RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution accepting a $50,000 donation from Brickellinvest Joint Venture, a Florida General Partnership, developer of the Bayshore Palms Project, through the Dade Community Foundation's "City of Miami Corporate Challenge Fund at Dade Community Foundation". Said funds will be allocated in the Parks and Recreation Department's Recreation Activity Consolidated Account. BACKGROUND: As per the attached May 28, 1998 letter from Dade Community Foundation, this donation is earmarked for "operating and maintaining open the City of Miami's swimming pools for the children of Miami".
