HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-98-0726J-98-525 5/29/98 RESOLUTION NO. 9 8 - 726 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING OF THE DADE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, IN THE AMOUNT OF $17,879.60, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NOS. 690001, 690002, AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED AND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING." WHEREAS, Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended, and the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" authorize the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement and anti -drug education purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Police Department supports organizations who present the police as positive role models to the community; and WHEREAS, the Dade Community Foundation's salute to thirty (30) African American police officers in its "Overtown's Salute to City of Miami African American Police Officers Past and Present" provided a positive police image, thus improving the status of police in the area, and WHEREAS, funds to cover this expenditure have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and CITY COMIVIISSION MEETING OF J U L 2 1 1998 Resolution No. 98- '726 WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has certified that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing;" NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding for the Dade Community Foundation, in the amount of $17,879.60, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended, and the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing." Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of July , 1998. Warshaw REFERENCES : Dade Community City Manager ENCLOSURES: Foundation RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing a contribution to the Dade Community Foundation, and allocating funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $17,879.60. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002 and 690003. BACKGROUND The Department of Police supports organizations like the Dade Community Foundation. The Dade Community Foundation in support of Black History Month activities presented to the Overtown community approximately thirty (30) African American police officers as positive role models.
