RESOLUTION NO. .. 8 — 672
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE
NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH YOUTH PROGRAM, AND
ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT
TO EXCEED $5,000.00, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT
TRUST FUND, PROJECT NOS. 690001, 690002, AND
690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN
APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING
WITH FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER
932.7055, AS AMENDED, AND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT
OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE
SHARING."
WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, and the
U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing"
authorize the expenditure of shared cash or proceeds for law
enforcement and anti -drug education purposes not considered normal
operating expenses; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department believes that it is
imperative that youth be given positive incentive programs; and
WHEREAS, the New Bethel Baptist Church Youth Program
provides at -risk youths with a program offering daily workshops,
round table discussions, and study sessions with subject matters
such as drugs, crime, dating, AIDS, parenting, health care and
conflict resolution being addressed; and
WHEREAS, funds to cover said expenditure are available from
the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Nos. 690001, 690002, and

690003, such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of
Police as complying with the U.S. Department of Treasury's "Guide
to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statute 932.7055, as
amended;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The funding for the New Bethel Baptist Church
Youth Program, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor, in the
amount not to exceed $5,000.00, from the Law Enforcement Trust
Fund, Project Nos. 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditure
having been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with the
Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida
State Statute 932.7055, as amended.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective

immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.1/

If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective

RECOMMEDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission approve the attached Resolution
authorizing funding, in .the amount of $5,000.00, for the New Bethel Baptist Church Youth
Program. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Number
690001, 690002, and 690003.
BACKGROUND
The Miami Police Department supports programs such as those offered by the New Bethel Baptist
Church Youth Program. This summer youth program is comprised of approximately 140 to 172
at -risk and/or truant kids, 7 to 18 years of age. Ninety percent of the youth are from the City of
Miami area. The program offers daily workshops, round table discussions, and study sessions.
Subject matters such as drugs, crime, dating, AIDS, parenting, health care and conflict resolution
are addressed.

for expenditure from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, for a contribution to the,
New Bethel Baptist Church Youth Program, in an amount not to exceed $5,000.00,
complies with the U.S. Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State
Statute 932.7055.
