BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The following individuals are hereby appointed to serve as members of the Citywide Community Development Advisory Board, each member to serve a term expiring May 5, 1999: Commissioner J.L. City Clerk CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA 35 INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM May 19, 1998 DATE: FILE SUBJECT: Seven Appointments Needed to the Citywide Community Development Advisory Board REFERENCES: June 9, 1998 Agenda ENCLOSURES: The Citywide Community Development Advisory Board was created to advise the City Commission on community development and housing needs. The board will be responsible for providing a leadership role in encouraging target area -wide resident participation in the citywide grant process as follows: (1) Promoting interest in grant activities in the target areas; (2) Providing residents with an opportunity to discuss community concerns and related issues; (3) Providing an opportunity for City resdients to identify community needs; (4) Facilitating two-way communication with government representatives and target area residents, and assisting the City in communicating its program services and benefits to residents; (5) Recommending priorities for community improvements; (6) Reviewing the progress of community improvement activities; and (7) Conducting public meetings. Seven appointments are needed at this time: • Commissioner Plummer has two nominations to make for seats currently held by Mario Gutierrez and Mario Pestonit, whose terms expired on May 5, 1998. • Commissioner Regalado has one nomination to make for seat currently vacant because Ramon Flores resigned. • Commissioner Teele has two nominations to make for seats currently held by Grady Muhammad and Michel Lubin whose terms expired on May 5, 1998. • Commissioner Gort has two nominations to make: one for seat currently held by Angel Urquiola, whose term expired on May 5, 1997 and one vacant seat. There are eight additional members who are elected to repesent target areas. The Department of Community Development will hold elections in each of the target areas to decide who will serve as representatives on the board. Once elections have been held, this issue will be scheduled on a future agenda for Commission confirmation. 98- 597 For your information, attached please find a copy of the current membership to said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the City Manager place this issue on the June 9, 1998 Commission agenda. This issue was partially deferred on the May 121' Commission meeting.
