ENCLOSURES:
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution,
authorizing the reimbursement of monies to the General Fund towards the City of Miami's
Recovery Plan, and allocating funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $408,000.00.
Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Numbers 690002
and 690003.
BACKGROUND:
The City's Recovery Plan provides for $1,808,024 in Law Enforcement Trust Fund monies to be
allocated toward eliminating the City's deficit in FY' 97-98. There is $408,000.00 available to
reimburse the General Fund at this time which will be applied towards the salaries, fringe benefits,
and overtime costs of officers and civilian support personnel assigned to investigations and
operations that have resulted in seizures and/or forfeitures. The remaining amount of $1,000,024
will be allocated as soon as funds become available. The Chief of Police has determined that this
is a permissible use of shared cash or proceeds of forfeited property as outlined in the Department
of the Treasury's, "Guide to Equitable Sharing for Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement
Agencies."
