ENCLOSURES: Weed & Seed Program
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution accepting
donation of two (2) buses by the Miami -Dade Transit Authority for use by the City of Miami
Police Department's "Miami/Miami-Dade County Weed and Seed Program."
BACKGROUND
The Miami -Dade County Transit Authority has donated two (2) buses to be used by the Police
Department's Miami/Miami-Dade Weed and Seed Program. Both buses are 1980, Models
T80204, Serial Numbers 810301, and 810348 respectively. One bus will be converted into a
mobile police station, and the other bus will be used to transport citizens to and from planned
activities.
In 1996, the Liberty City area was officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice as a
Weed and Seed site. The Weed and Seed strategy recognizes the importance of linking federal,
state and local law enforcement efforts with federal, state and local social services, and community
efforts to maximize the impact of existing programs. The Miami Weed and Seed Program is
comprised of seventy-four (74) representatives all of whom live or work in the Liberty City area.
The two primary goals of the Weed and Seed Program are: To eliminate violent crime, drug
trafficking and drug related crimes in the Liberty City area; and to provide a safe neighborhood,
free of crn and drug use so that the law abiding citizens can live, work and raise their families.
