(April 14, 1998 Agenda) ENCLOSURES: (List of Members) The Commission on the, Status of Women was created to inspire in women a desire for self- improvement; to seek and encourage active involvement in community affairs by women; to encourage the participation of women in leadership roles; and to work toward legislation promoting equal rights and equal opportunities for women. Seventeen appointments are needed at this time: Chairman Hernandez has five nominations (Mary Ferrell, Gladys Fernandez, Clara Porter, Ana Maria Chartrans and Nilsa Velasquez, all have expired terms). Commissioner Gort has one nomination pending. Commissioner Plummer has five nominations (Ivon Mesa, Josefina Sanchez-Pando, Pauline Ramos, Marie Rosy Toussaint and Sonia Yahr-Schneider, all have expired terms). Commissioner Teele has five nominations (Nora Swan, Janet Cooper, Sheila Zemsky, Janet Lancelot and Sally Jude, all have expired terms and were nominated by former Mayor Carollo).
