" 8 -' 339 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING FOR THE POLICE EXPLORERS PROGRAM, IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,000; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NUMBERS 690001, 690002, AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED AND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING." WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitabie Sharing," authorize the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement and anti -drug education purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department continues to have a commitment to the education and development of the youth of our community; and WHEREAS, the objective of the Police Explorers Program is to provide the youth of the Miami area an opportunity to gain an insight into the career of law enforcement; and WHEREAS, the Police Explorer Program is designed to instill within the Explorer a genuine desire to demonstrate the proper habits, attitudes and efforts to become a contributing member of society; and WHEREAS, the Explorers also fulfill an important role in the drug awareness and prevention movement by informing their peers about the perils of substance abuse; and APR 14 M8 Resolution No. 98- 33 WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended and the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing;" NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding of the Miami Police Explorers Program, in the amount of $50,000, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended, and the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing." Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED ;his 14th day of April , 1998. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from a Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003. BACKGROUND The Miami Police Department is committed to the education and development of the youth of our city. The objective of the Miami Police Explorers Program is to provide the young men and women of the Miami area an opportunity to gain an insight into the career of law enforcement. This program is designed to stimulate interest in further trainirig and education in this field. It also helps foster a good attitude towards the law enforcement community. plrw:lmr c: Donald H.
