Honorable Chairman and February 27, 1998
Board of City Commissioners
Resolution 98-222 -
-_ Veto
Mayor Xavier L. Suarez l J ; 3 M

r C7
Pursuant to the authority vested in me under the provisfionfrof 5ection"
4(g)(5) of the Charter of the City of Miami, Florida, I hereby veto
Resolution No.: 98-222 for the following reasons:
In view of the Commission decision not to impose the Fire -Rescue fee,
it behooves us all to give the example by every possible austerity measure.
I personally have accepted a benefit package that is identical to those
of any City executive. It does not provide any of the following items, which
are proposed under the above resolution:
1. Annual contribution of $15,000 toward a Universal Life Insurance,
payable first two weeks of each calendar year of Key personnel term
insurance not less than $175,000, up to 2X annual salary, rounded to
lowest $1,000.
2. $1, 500 per month ($18,000 per year), paid on the first day of each
calendar month. No documentation required.
3. One fax machine and one fax line provided for use at home.
4. One lap top computer with docking station provided.
I do believe that Commissioners should be paid a reasonable salary.
However, that should be approved by the people of Miami in a charter
referendum. At the first general election, I will support such a charter
amendment.
