A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE NOMINATION OF
CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS TO SERVE AS MEMBERS OF
THE OVERTOWN ADVISORY BOARD FOR TERMS AS
DESIGNATED HEREIN.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The appointments of the following individuals
are hereby confirmed as members of the Overtown Advisory Board to
serve terms expiring July 31, 1998, said members having been
nominated by the members of the Overtown Advisory Board to
replace individuals that have been excessively absent:
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this loth day of March , 1998.

Appointments Needed to the
Overtown Advisory Board

The Overtown Advisory Board was created to encourage and support historic preservation
and provide recommendations to the City Commission regarding all City funded or assisted
activities, developments, or improvements within the Overtown area.
City Code Section 2-1052(f) reads in part:
"...whenever a member has had within a calendar year, three (3) consecutive
absences or four (4) absences within a calendar year from the regularly
scheduled meetings, the highest ranking officer of the board shall certify
same to the city clerk. The city clerk shall then inform the city commission in
writing that the position has been declared vacant and a successor member
must be selected to fill the vacancy."
City Code Section 2-1052(e) reads in part:
"Vacancies in the membership of the Overtown Advisory Board shall be filled
by'the remaining members, who shall submit the name(s) to fill the
vacancy(ies) to the City Commission for ratification." — - -
Jimmie Beck and Richard Robinson have been excessively absent, pursuant to Code Section
stated above. The Overtown Advisory Board submitted the names of Ms. Sharon Jackson and
Fr. Leroy Lloyd to replace Messrs. Beck and Robinson.
For your information, attached please find a copy of the current membership of said board. By
copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the
March 10, 1998 Commission agenda.
There are two additional vacancies created pursuant to Ordinance 11581, which prohibits
employees of Miami -Dade County or any municiipality therein other than City of Miami
employees to serve on City Boards. Dane Braddy and Henry Crespo were thereby removed
from the Overtown Advisory Board. Their replacements will be scheduled for Commission
consideration at a future meeting.

At the January 15th Board meeting of the Overtown Advisory Board, Two new
members were nominated and appointed as members of the O.A.B.
The appointed members MS.SHARON JACKSON and. FR. LEROY LLOYD
replaced JIMMY BECK and RICHARD ROBINSON.
On behalf of the Board, I am asking that the appointment of these two members
be ratified by the City Commission at an early date.
