RESOLUTION NO. 9 8- 240
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE MIAMI
URBAN MINISTRIES YOUTH PROGRAM, IN AN AMOUNT NOT
TO EXCEED $4,950.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM
THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NUMBERS
690001, 690002, 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN
CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE
SHARING" AND FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055,
AS AMENDED.
WHEREAS, the Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida
State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorize expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law
enforcement and anti -drug education purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department believes that it is imperative that we give our youth a
positive incentive program; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Urban Ministries city wide Youth Program offers positive
experiences for youth in the areas of leadership development, career aspirations, cultural/ethnic
pride, family enhancement, and spiritual nurture; and
WHEREAS, funds to cover said expenditure are available from the Law Enforcement Turst
Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditures having been certified by
the Chief of Police as complying with the U.S. Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable
Sharing," and Florida State Statutes, Chapter 930.7055, as amended;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby
adopted by reference thereto and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Funding for the Miami Urban Ministries Youth Program, in an amount not to
exceed $4,950.00, is hereby authorized; with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Law
Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditures having
been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with the Department of Treasury's "Guide to
Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statute, Chapter 930.7055, as amended.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.

RECOMMEDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution authorizing funding, in -the amount of $4,950.00,
for the Miami Urban Ministries Youth Program, be approved. Funding is to be provided from the
Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Number 690001, 690002, and 690003.
BACKGROUND:
The Miami Police Department supports programs such as those offered by the Miami Urban
Ministries Youth Program. This Miami Urban Ministries has developed a city-wide youth
program called OASIS, which offers positive experiences for youth in the areas of leadership
development, career aspirations, cultural/ethnic pride, family enhancement, and spiritual nurture.
This year's program entitled, "Social Justice and Community Service," encourages youth of our
community to look beyond their own needs and interests and help people in their neighborhoods.
