ENCLOSURES: City Commission Agenda Item
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution which
increases the FY `95 Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) Program Grant
funding awarded to Miami -Dade County's Department of Human Resources from $97,373.69 to
$107,430.64. The said funding is being provided from uncommitted FY `95 HOPWA Program
funds (Account No. 194003.590603.6860.94654), for the provision of short term housing
assistance to low income persons with HIV/AIDS throughout Miami -Dade County.
BACKGROUND:
At the August 18, 1997 HOPWA Advisory Board (HAB) meeting, the HAB unanimously
recommended that the City Commission allocate the uncommitted and unexpended HOPWA
Program funds from the 1993, 1994, and 1995 program years to Miami -Dade County's
Department of Human Resources (Office of Community Services) (OCS), for the provision of
short term housing assistance to low income persons with HIV/AIDS.
At the September 9, 1997 City Commission meeting, the City Commission adopted Resolution
No. 97-631, which awarded $97,373.69 in 1995 HOPWA funds to Miami -Dade County's
Department of Human Resources, for the provision of short term housing to low income persons
with HIV/AIDS. it was subsequently determined by the City Administration that the amount
should have been $107,430.64, due to an arithmetical error. As a result, the City Administration
recommends that Resolution No. 97-631 be amended to increase the amount awarded to the
aforementioned organization from $97,373.69 to $107,430.64 for the said purpose.
City. Commission ratification of the attached resolution is recommended.
