BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. F m City Clerk CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA 40 INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM DATE : December 23, 1998 FILE : SUBJECT : Seven Appointments Needed to the Citywide Community Development Advisory Board REFERENCES : (January 13, 1998 Agenda) ENCLOSURES: (List of Members) The Citywide Community Development Advisory Board was created to advise the City Commission on community development and housing needs. The board will be responsible for providing a leadership role in encouraging target area -wide resident participation in the citywide grant process as follows: (a) Promoting interest in grant activities in the target areas; (b) Providing residents with an opportunity to discuss community concerns and related issues; (c) Providing an opportunity for City residents to identify community needs; (d) Facilitating two-way communication with government representatives and target area residents, and assisting the City in communicating its program services and benefits to residents; (e) Recommending priorities for community improvements; (f) Reviewing the progress of community improvement activities; and (g) Conducting public meetings. City Code Section 2-885 states in part: "(a) The terms of office of the members of each board shall be of one year or until the nominating commissioner leaves office, whichever occurs first. When the nominating commissioner leaves office the board member's term shall expire. Vacancies on boards shall be filled by the commission for the unexpired term. Board members shall continue to serve until their successors have been appointed and qualified." Seven appointments are needed at this time: • Commissioner Teele has two nominations for appointment to make for seats currently held by Grady Muhammad and Michel Lubin, who were nominated by former Mayor Carollo. • Presiding Officer Hernandez has two nominations for appointment for seats currently held by Rev. Canon Ronald Fox and Irby McKnight, who had been nominated by former Commissioner Gibson. • Commissioner Regalado has one nomination for vacant seat formerly held by Ramon Flores, who resigned. • Commissioner Gort has two nominations for appointment for one vacant seat formely held by James Simmons who was excessively absent, and another seat currently held by Angel Urquiola.
