HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-98-0003J-98-6 12/29/97 RESOLUTION NO. 9 8 - 3 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE MODEL CITY CRIME PREVENTION SUB -COUNCIL, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $20,000; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorizes expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, The Police Department supports those groups that assist them in the fight against crime; and WHEREAS, the Model City Crime Prevention Sub -Council is such a group; and WHEREAS, Sub -Council members assist the Department by patrolling the area and reporting any criminal activity that they may come upon; and WHEREAS, the money will be used to off -set expenses associated with the continued operation of the Sub -Council; and WHEREAS, the funds the Police Department seeks to contribute to this organization have not been included in their normal operating budget; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has certified that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended; CITY CObOWSION FETING OF JAN 1 3 1998 Resolution No. 98- 3 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted. Section 2. Funding for the Model City Crime Prevention Sub -Council is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated, in the amount of $20,000.00, from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Number 690001, such expenditure having been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 13th day of Janaury , 1998. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Number 690001. BACKGROUND: The Police Department supports those groups involved in assisting in the crime fighting efforts of the Department. The Model City Crime Prevention Sub -Council and Task Force is such a group, whose members assist the Department by patrolling the area and reporting any criminal activity that they may come upon. The reporting member does not try to make an apprehension or get involved in any way, other than provide information.
