FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO : The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission r . _ FROM Do ald H. Warshaw City Manager RECOMMENDATION: DATE : OCT I 9 1993 FILE SUBJECT : Renaming S.W. 1 Avenue Between S.W. 13 Street and S.W. 15 Road REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: The purpose of this discussion is to consider the attached Ordinance amending Chapter 54 of the Code of the City of Miami by amending Section 54-124 entitled "Names of Avenues", by changing the name of Southwest 1 Avenue between Southwest 13 Street and Southwest 15 Road to "Brickell Way". BACKGROUND: The owner of the parcel of land on the west side of Southwest 1 Avenue between Southwest 13 Street and Southwest 15 Road is redeveloping his property and has applied to replat the land. As part of the platting process necessary to obtain building permits for this project, the owner has requested to change the name of Southwest 1 Avenue adjacent to the new subdivision to 'Brickell Way". Un.like .a street codesignation, this request is for an entire name change of a roadway, and as such, official mailing addresses and all legal documentation must reflect the proposed new name, including all utility and government accounts, records and signage. Existing name association with this roadway will be lost and the effect on the conduct of.business could be impacted. Article IV of Chapter 54 of the City Code entitled "Naming of streets and numbering of buildings" establishes the names of City streets. If the City Commission determines it is advisable, and in the best interest of the general welfare of the City and its residents, to change the name of this roadway, an Ordinance amending Chapter 54 of the City Code must be adopted. The expenses incurred by the City associated with this name change include an advertising cost of approximately $900.00 and, if approved, changing street identification signs at four (4) intersections at an estimated cost of $500.00. All expenses on the part of the City and any other governmental agency resulting from this request should be borne by tie applicant. V. 4,-Jtt4b DW/J K/rjf t; 11720 0 CITY OF MIAMI.
