HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-11708J-98-692 . 7/14/98 ORDINANCE NO. 11708 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 53-181(4) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, ENTITLED "SCHEDULE OF FEES" THEREBY REVISING PARKING RATES AT THE JAMES L. KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER PUBLIC PARKING FACILITY; CONTAINING A REPEALER PROVISION AND A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Trust Indenture for the James L. Knight International Center requires that recommendations for revisions of rates for the facility be prepared each year and submitted to the Director of the Convention Center; and WHEREAS, a parking study of comparable parking lots in the major buildings and flat open lots in downtown Miami was conducted and findings indicate that change in the daily parking rates are necessary at Miami Convention Center Parking Garage No. 4 to remain competitive with other parking facilities and to also increase revenues for the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the Department of Offstreet Parking and the Director of the Convention Center recommend the following rates changes be adopted; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance 11708 are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Section 53-181(4) of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, is hereby amended as follows:.'''/, " Sec. 53-181. Schedule of fees. The schedule of rents, rates, fees and charges for the use or occupancy of and for the services furnished or to be furnished in connection with the Convention Center of the City of Miami/University of Miami James L. Knight International Center, also known as the "Miami Convention Center," is established as follows: (4) Convention center parking garage (including state sales tax): Rate Category Rate a. All ordinances or parts of ordinances insofar as they are inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 4. If any section, part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected. Section 5. Knight International REFERENCESCenter Public Parking Facility ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Ordinance increasing rates at the James L. Knight International Center Garage (Parking Garage No. 4). BACKGROUND A study was conducted of comparable parking facilities in the major buildings and flat open lots in downtown Miami. Findings indicate that changes in the parking rates are justified and necessary at Parking Garage No. 4 to remain competitive with other parking facilities and to increase revenues for the City of Miami. The Department of Conferences, Conventions and Public Facilities recommends that small increases in parking fees be adopted.
