ENCLOSURES:
RECOMMENDATION
The Board of Trustees for the City of Miami General Employees' and Sanitation
Employees' Trust (GESE) requests an amendment to Section 40-245 of the City
Code correcting a scriveners error on the types of funds where investments may be
made. The correction would allow for the purchase of asset backed securities.- The
administration recommends the amendment.
BACKGROUND
On November 17, 1994 the City Commission adopted an amendment to Section 40-
229 (now . Section 40-245), as recommended by the GESE Trust, relating to
investment guidelines and types of funds where investments may be made.
At the GESE Trust's board meeting on June 27, 1997 it was brought to the board's
attention that in amending Section 40-229 (now Section 40-245) certain language,
allowing for the purchase of asset backed securities, was inadvertently struck from
the section.
The amendment to Section 40-245 would allow the GESE Trust to comply with the
Trust's investment policy as it relates to asset backed securities.
