Warshaw Motion 98-590 City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the formation of an ad hoc Citizens Advisory Committee for Virginia Key be discussed at the City Commission meeting of July 21", 1998, pursuant to Motion 98-590 passed on June 9", 1998. BACKGROUND: On June 90', 1998, the City Commission passed Motion 98-590 calling for the establishment of an Advisory Committee for possible development activities on Virginia Key and directing the administration to come back with a recommended structure for said committee. In response to this motion, a memorandum dated July 2°d, 1998, was distributed presenting a recommendation that the existing Waterfront Advisory Board be utilized as the forum for participation from among citizens, staff and interested parties regarding Virginia Key. After further discussion and consideration, it is recommended that a seven -member Ad Hoc Citizens Advisory Committee for Virginia Key be established as a subcommittee to the Waterfront Advisory Board utilizing the following format: • The Mayor and Members of the City Commission each to appoint one individual to serve on the committee (6) • The Waterfront Advisory Board to appoint one individual to the committee (1) • The Ad Hoc Citizens Advisory Committee for Virginia Key to meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month, prior to the regularly scheduled meeting of the Waterfront Advisory Board in the Commission Chambers at City Hall • Appointments to the committee to be comprised of individuals with backgrounds and expertise in the following areas: Environmental studies and/or planning Environmental sciences and/or engineering Marine -related business operations Commercial real estate development Banking & finance 98- 761 Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission Page Tw-o Pending the outcome of this discussion before the Commission on July 21", it is requested that the name of your appointment to the proposed Ad Hoc Citizens Advisory Committee on Virginia Key be submitted to my office no later than July 31 ", 1998, so that a meeting may be convened in August.
