This item is in reference to the creation of an open air market in the parking area of the Miami Marine Stadium. 'DSussa TO. Jose Garcia -Pedrosa City Manager FROM: Tomas Regalado Commissioner CITY OF MIAM1, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM April 27,1998 - DATE: - FILE: SUBJECT: Miami Marine Stadium REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: As Chairman of the Public Facilities Committee, I am very concerned about the situation in the Miami Marine Stadium and the surrounding areas. I understand that there are possible plans for major projects regarding that area, however my concern is an immediate one. At the City Commission meeting on May 12, 1998, I intend to bring forth a discussion item in regards to the immediate possibilities of cleaning and maintaining the parking lot and adjacent areas. Prior to that, I would like to share some ideas with you. 1) We need some definite cleaning in the area, before the summer season (the middle of June) 2) This could be achieved with city resources, volunteers, and/or the private industry. 3) The West lot (currently an eyesore) could be used to start a marine flea market on Saturdays and Sundays (there is a huge militant boating community in our area that would like to visit the site). The city could charge a minimal fee to the vendors, and use the money to maintain the area. Food, soft drinks, and even music could be included. The city will not be liable, although the stadium has been condemned since 1992, because all activities will be held in the parking lots and the adjacent lot. At the meeting on May 12th, I will provide pictures for the members of the City Commission. At your convenience, I would like to visit this location with you or Mr. Joe Pinon, to explain my ideas. 0-
