Alvarez Alvarez' request to be placed on requested the Commander of the provide a summary of his crime Mr. Alvarez is the owner of La Rampa Grocery, located 2925 N.W. 27th Avenue. On August 18, 1997, Mr. Alvarez' grocery was burglarized of $40,000.00 in U.S. Currency. The burglars entered through the roof and were able to open the safe to the business which was left unlocked. Additionally, the investigating officer noted that the area where the safe is located is not protected by an alarm sensor, although the remainder of the business is protected by alarms. At this time the case is still open and the General Investigation Unit is seeking leads. on Dec. 12, 1997, Mr. Alvarez was robbed and shot in the left leg as he walked to his business from his vehicle. Mr. Alvarez was unable to identify any of the assailants therefore, no arrests have been made on this case. Several days later, Mr. Alvarez was contacted by the Allapattah Neighborhood Resource Officer (N.R.O.) in an effort to address his concerns. The N.R.O. reported that Mr. Alvarez had concerns about crime in the area of his business. He voiced concern about homeless individuals, narcotic sales and undesirables in the area. In response to his concerns, the Police Department assigned a Patrol Officer to monitor the area along N.W. 27 Avenue from 20th Street to 29th Street on a regular basis. An analysis of crime within eight (8) square blocks surrounding Mr. Alvarez' business for 1997 revealed the following: Robbery 10 Agg. Assaults 11 Burglary 22 Larceny 33 Vehic-le Theft 19 Homicides None Manslaughter None Rape None p Feb-09-98 10:33 P.03 Donald H. Warshaw Page 2 In comparison to other reporting areas in Allapattah, Mr. Alvarez' area is below the average in reported criminal incidents. We will continue to monitor Mr. Alvarez' business area with directed patrols in order to deter criminal activity. DHW:om •
