HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-99-0927J-99-1013 12/2/99 RESOLUTION NO. 9 99 2 7 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING TRUST FUND, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $100,000, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NOS. 690001, 690002, AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING" AND FLORIDA STATE STATUTE, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing," and Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorize the expenditure of forfeiture cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Police Department will be training its personnel in areas necessary to perform or support official law enforcement duties; and WHEREAS, funds will used for the payment of costs associated with said training such as instructors, registration fees, travel, books and supplies, training facilities; and WHEREAS, funds for this expenditure have not been included CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF DEC 1it1999 9,q"-cian 9 21 0 in the Police Department's normal operating budget and are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The funding for the Law Enforcement Training Trust Fund, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor, in the amount not to exceed $100,000, hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditure having been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with the U. S. Department of Treasury's - 2 - 99- 927 G) "Guide to Equitable Sharing," and Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended. Section 3. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003. BACKGROUND The Miami Police Department will be utilizing these funds to train its personnel in any area that is necessary to perform or support official law enforcement duties. Examples of training areas will include, but are not limited to: (1) use of computer or other equipment used in support of law enforcement duties, (2) ethics and professional conduct, (3) management and supervision training for support personnel.
