HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-99-0808J-99-909 10/22/99 RESOLUTION NO 0 9 8 0 8 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, SUPPORTING THE FREE TRADE AREA OF THE AMERICAS ("FTAA") SECRETARIAT, WHOSE OFFICES ARE LOCATED WITHIN THE ENTERPRISE ZONE; FURTHER SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF TEAM FLORIDA/FTAA TO SECURE A PERMANENT LOCATION FOR THE FTAA SECRETARIAT WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI; FINDING THAT THE FTAA SECRETARIAT PROJECT IS CONSISTENT WITH THE CITY OF MIAMI'S LOCAL PLANS AND REGULATIONS, INCLUDING THE CITY'S COMPREHENSIVE NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN. WHEREAS, in December, 1994, the City of Miami hosted the Summit of the Americas whereby the Heads of State of 34 democracies in the region agreed to complete contractual negotiations for the establishment of a "Free Trade Area of the Americas ("FTAA") and to by the year 2005; and WHEREAS, the administrative support organization for the FTAA, known as the 'Secretariat', is presently located in the City of Miami within the City of Miami's designated Enterprise Zone; and WHEREAS, Team Florida/FTAA, Inc., a Florida not -for -profit organization which serves as a support group for the FTAA Secretariat, has undertaken significant private -sector fundraising efforts to support the FTAA, FTAA Secretariat, and to CnTY comaSSIOId MEETING OF 0GT2r1999 Resolution No. 09_ C. v U assist in the search to secure a permanent location in the City of Miami for the FTAA Secretariat; and WHEREAS, Team Florida/FTAA, Inc.'s fundraising efforts will be significantly enhanced through the qualifications of the project under the State of Florida Community Contribution Tax Credit Program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Free Trade Area of the Americas ( "FTAA" ) Secretariat whose offices are located within the Enterprise Zone and the efforts of Team Florida/FTAA to secure permanent location for the FTAA Secretariat within the City of Miami are hereby fully supported by the City Commission. Section 3. The City Commission hereby finds that the FTAA Secretariat project is consistent with the City of Miami's local plans and regulations, including the City's Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective 2 - immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor Y PASSED AND ADOPTED this '26th ATTEST: WALTER J.
