WHEREAS, the Office of Asset Management sought formal bids for the replacement of two air-conditioning units at Allapattah Elderly Center under Bid No. 98-99-256; and WHEREAS, during the bid process,the units deteriorated, causing leakage at several locations throughout the premises causing a safety hazard; and WHEREAS, it was necessary to replace these units in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the elderly citizens utilizing the facility; and WHEREAS, funds are available from Account CITY cOMTVUSSION MEETING OF r T 1 2 1999 Resolution No. Code No. 810101.670; and F WHEREAS, the City Manager made finding that an emergency existed and approved the provision and installation of two air- conditioning units at the Allapattah Elderly Center; i NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA; Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. By a four -fifths (4/5118) affirmative vote of the members of the City Commission, the City Manager's finding of an emergency, and approving the provision and, installation of two air-conditioning units at the Allapattah Elderly Center, from Eagle A/C of W ami, in an amount not to exceed $9,948.78, for the L Office of Asset Management, is hereby approved, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Account Code No. 810101.670. Purchase of Two A/C Units for the Allapattah Elderly Center REFERENCES ENCLOSURES: It is respectfilily recommended that the City Commission approve, ratify and confirm the City Manager's finding that an emergency need existed in approving the emergency purchase of two air conditioning units under Bid No. 93-99-156, from Eagle A/C of 1liami. Inc., a Hispanic/Dade vendor, located at 13390 SW 131 Street #134, Miami, FL, for a total award amount not to exceed $9,948.78. Funds are available in Asset :Management's Account Code #810101-670. BACKGROUND: The Office of Asset Management in cooperation with the Purchasing Department sought formal bids for the replacement of two older worn out air conditioning units at the Allapattah Elderly Center which could not be reasonably repaired. During the bid process, the units continued to deteriorate and had stopped cooling the premises. Additionally, the units began leaking at several locations throughout the premises causing a safety hazard_ Given the fact this facility is used to provide programs for the elderly and the existing units have now failed completely in their ability to cool, it is necessary to replace these units on an emergency basis in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens utilizing the facility.
