Home My WebLink AboutR-99-0633J-99-733 8/26/99 RESOLUTION NO. 00 9 6 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING FUNDING OF THE MODEL CITY CRIME PREVENTION SUB -COUNCIL, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $15,500, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NUMBERS 690001, 690002, AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING," AND FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorize the expenditure of forfeiture cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Police Department supports organizations that involve citizens in positive community oriented activities; and WHEREAS, the Model City Crime Prevention Sub -Council ("Sub - Council") assists the Department by patrolling the area and reporting any suspicious or criminal activity; and WHEREAS, funds will be used for the lease of six (6) hand- held radios, car expenses for four (4) vehicles, telephone crry COMMISSION f4EETING OF SEP ?. 1 1999 hesoluuon No. i i 1 services, office supplies, and other expenses associated with the continued operation of the Sub -Council; and WHEREAS, funds for this expenditure have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The funding for the Model City Crime Prevention Sub -Council, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor in the amount not to exceed $15,500, hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditure having been approved by the Chief of - 2 - 9��- G 49P3 U Police as complying with the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003. BACKGROUND: The Police Department supports those groups involved in assisting with the crime fighting efforts of the Department. The Model City Crime Prevention Sub -Council and Task Force is such a group, whose members assist the Department by patrolling the area and reporting any criminal activity that they may come upon. The reporting member does not try to make an apprehension or get involved, other than provide information.
