PENSION ADMINISTRATOR APPOINTMENT AND
(RE) APPOINTMENT TO
THE CITY OF MIAMI
G.E.S.E. RETIREMENT
TRUST
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission confirm the re -appointment by CIGU of Laurence Wright and James
Tuner as the representatives selected by CIGU as members of the City of Miami General Employees' and
Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust Board of Trustees as per attached Resolution. Furthermore, It is also
recommended that the City Commission confuln the appointment of Charles Cox as the representative selected by
AFSCME Local 1907 to replace Isabel Kato as member of the City of Miami General Employees' and
Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust Board of Trustees as per attached Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
City of Miami Code Section 40-243 (A), (Ordinance No. 10002), provides for the appointment of a nine member
board of trustees to administer and manage the retirement plan known as the "City of Miami General Employees'
and Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust." Of these nine members, one is to be selected by the City Manager,
two by the general employees (A.F.S.C.M.E. bargaining unit), and two by the sanitation employees (C.I.G-U.
bargaining unit). Four independent trustees are to be selected by the City Commission per recommendation by the
two bargaining units.
Mr. Norman Charles, President of CIGU, has submitted for confirmation the names of Laurence Wright and James
Tuner for reappointment to the Pension Board (sce attached letter). The term of office would begin on May 26,
1999, and expire on May 25, 2001. Furthermore, Mr. Charles Cox, President, AFSCME Local 1907, has
submitted his name for appointment to the Pension Board (see attached letter). The term of office would begin on
June 21, 1999, and expire on November 30, 2000.
