A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
AUTHORIZING FUNDING OF THE NEW BETHEL BAPTIST
CHURCH SUMMER CAMP YOUTH PROGRAM, AND
ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT
TO EXCEED $5,222, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT
TRUST FUND, PROJECT NUMBERS 690001, 690002,
AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN
APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING
WITH THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S
"GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING," AND FLORIDA
STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED.
WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to
Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statute 932.7055, as
amended, authorize the expenditure of shared cash or proceeds for
law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating
expenses; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department is committed to the education
and development of the youth of the community; and
WHEREAS, the funding of the New Bethel Baptist Church Summer
Camp Youth Program provides at -risk children the opportunity to
participate in workshops, round table discussions, and study
sessions with subject matters such as drugs, crime, dating, AIDS,

parenting, health care and conflict resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Summer Camp Youth Program will provide 250
children from families of limited financial resources to
participate in summer camp programs; and
WHEREAS, five children will receive full scholarships to
attend summer camp and payment of expenses for field trips, food
and educational supplies; and
WHEREAS, funds to cover this expenditure have not been
included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and
are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund;
and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of
this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed
comply with the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to
Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as
amended;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The funding for the New Bethel Baptist Church
Summer Camp Youth Program, is hereby authorized, with funds
therefor, in the amount not to exceed $5,222, hereby allocated
from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers G90001,
G90002, and G90003, such expenditure having been approved by the

Chief of Police as complying with the U. S. Department of the
Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State
Statutes 932.7055, as amended.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and adoption by the Mayor'-'.

�i If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at
the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If
the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately
upon override of the veto by the City Commission.

ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission approve the attached Resolution
authorizing funding, in the amount of $5,222, for the New Bethel Baptist Church Summer Camp
Youth Program. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project
Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003.
BACKGROUND
The Miami Police Department supports programs such as those offered by the New Bethel Baptist
Church Youth Program which, provide at -risk youths with workshops, round table discussions, and
study sessions concerning subject matters such as drugs, crime, dating, AIDS, parenting, health
care and conflict resolution. The summer camp will provide an alternative for approximately two
hundred fifty (250) kids, ages 5-17, who otherwise would not be able to attend summer school or
other summer programs because of their limited financial resources. This contribution will pay for
full scholarships for five (5) kids to attend summer camp and covers participant expenses for field
trips, food and educational supplies.
