HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-99-0411�1- J-99-540 6/8/99 RESOLUTION NO. 9 J` 4 11 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AGREEMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THREE SENIOR COUNSELORS/VICTIM ADVOCATES, AT AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $15,682.23 EACH, FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR, WITH THE OPTION TO EXTEND FOR TWO ADDITIONAL ONE YEAR PERIODS, FOR THE PROVISION OF COUNSELING AND INTERVENTION SUPPORT SERVICES IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE'S DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERVENTION (DVI) REACT PROGRAM; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, AT A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $47,017.00 ANNUALLY, FROM THE "STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN" GRANT, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 142019.291235.6.270, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS. WHEREAS, the Department of Police experiences approximately 6,000 reported cases of domestic violence annually and investigated thirty-nine (39) domestic violence related deaths from 1994 to 1996; and WHEREAS, the Department of Police has been awarded a STOP Violence Against Women Grant from the Florida Department of Community Affairs which will provide funding for the continuation of the Domestic Violence Intervention (DVI) REACT Program; and WHEREAS, said Grant provides funds for the Department of Police to rapidly process enforcement of legal remedies for domestic violence and for containing the offender through direct bEWING Or. JUN 0 -1 1999 Resolution No. q 41 I 1 I,, and coordinated application of community resources, as well as tracking the case until the victim is safe; and WHEREAS, said funding also provides for professional services by Senior. Counselors/Victim Advocates for immediate support at the scene of a domestic call of culturally sensitive, highly trained staff persons who assist in the mobilization of resources to provide counseling and. intervention support services; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manger is hereby authorized!' to execute Agreements, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with three Senior Counselors/Victim Advocates, at an amount not to exceed $15,682.23 each, for a period of one (1) year, with the option to extend for two additional one year periods, for the provision of counseling and intervention support services in connection with the Department of Police's Domestic Violence �i The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. - 2 •- w- 09 - 411 r Interventions (DVI) REACT Program, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the "STOP Violence Against Women" Grant, Account Code No. 142019.291235.6.270, at a total amount not to exceed $47,017.00 annually, subject to the availability of funds. _ Section 3.
