RESOLUTION NO. 9 9 ` 370
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND SINCEREST
CONDOLENCES OF THE CITY COMMISSION ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AND ITS CITIZENS TO THE
FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF PHIL HAMERSMITH, UPON
HIS UNTIMELY DEATH.
WHEREAS, Phil Hamersmith, one of South Florida's best known
political consultants, passed away on June 3, 1999; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hamersmith, who was born and raised in Miami,
began his career in the early 1970s as a general assignment
reporter for the Miami News, where he gained vast political
knowledge which eventually drew him into government service,
where he served as an Administrative Assistant to former Miami
Mayor Maurice Ferre and other top level positions; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hamersmith .returned to the private sector as an
advertising agency executive, and then in 1986, he formed his own
agency and specialized in campaign management, media development
and government relations to became one of the most respected
political strategists in Miami -Dade County; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission, on behalf
of the City of Miami and its citizens, to express its deepest

sympathy to the family and friends of Phil Hamersmith;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY

OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. On behalf of the citizens of the City of
Miami, the City Commission hereby conveys to the family and

- friends of Phil Hamersmith, its deepest sympathy and sincerest
condolences upon his untimely death.
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of June 1999.
