A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
APPOINTING AN INDIVIDUAL AND CONFIRMING THE
APPOINTMENTS OF CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS AS
MEMBERS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AFFIRMATIVE
ACTION ADVISORY BOARD FOR TERMS AS DESIGNATED
HEREIN.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The following individual is hereby appointed
as a member of the City of Miami Affirmative Action Advisory
Board, to serve a term expiring February 8, 2000, or until the
nominating Commissioner leaves office, whichever occurs first:
Dr. Laurinus Pierre Commissioner Arthur E. Teele, Jr.
Section 2. The appointments of the following
individuals, selected by the herein designated certified
bargaining units, are hereby confirmed as members of the

The Affirmative Action Advisory Board was created to review and recommend to the City
Commission the adoption of amendments/revisions to the City's affirmative action plan. The
board also reviews employment policies and practices of the City and makes recommendations to
the Personnel Department.
Four appointments and three confirmations are needed at this time:
• Chairman Plummer has two nominations for seats currently vacant due to the resignation
of Vicky Garcia -Toledo and excessive absences of Robert Grill.
• Commissioner Sanchez has one nomination for vacant seat because Ivan Barrett, who had
been nominated by former Commissioner Hernandez, was excessively absent.
• Commissioner Teele has one nomination for one seat currently held by Dr. Laurinus Pierre,
whose tern expires on February 8, 1999.
• The Commission at -large is requested to confirm the certified bargaining
representatives of City employees as follows:
1. Officer Viona Browne for Fraternal Order of Police
2. Jessica Angel for AFSCME
3. Overton Brooks for City Independent Group Union
For your information, attached please find a copy of the current membership of said board. By
copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the March
9, 1999 Commission agenda. This issue was partly deferred from the February 9, 1999
Commission meeting.
