RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution providing
funds for the cost, expenses, and fees incurred in the continued accreditation process of the
Department of Police by the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.
(C.A.L.E.A.), and the State of Florida, in the amount of $55,378.00. Funding is to be provided
from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Number 690003.
BACKGROUND
The Department of Police received its nationally recognized C.A.L.E.A. accreditation in November
1995, and this status was renewed in October 1998. The goal of the accreditation process is to
improve the delivery of law enforcement services. In order to retain this status, the department
must undergo a successful re -accreditation process every three years. The requested funds will
provide for the completion of this process through October of 2001.
These funds will be used primarily for the following: 1)Assessment fees for re -accreditation based
on the full time number of employees employed by our agency, 2) Computer equipment and
Internet access, 3) Miscellaneous office supplies and equipment, 4) Travel/Training, 5) Advertising
cost, 6) Books, publications and membership fees, and 7) Other expenses related to the on -site
mock assessment and final assessment.
