Performing Arts Center
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution to
allow the Performing Arts Center Trust to hang a banner on what is now called the Sears
Tower until January 31, 2000 pursuant to §925.3.3 of the Zoning Ordinance.
BACKGROUND:
The Performing Arts Center is one of the two major projects expected to revitalize the
downtown area during the evenings and weekends. Additionally, this project will create a
venue for cultural pursuits that will include, among other things, Symphony, Ballet, and
Opera. The Performing Arts Center Trust, the 501(c)(3) organization which is charged
with the plan, design and construction of the Performing Arts Center, has requested that
it be allowed to pre -market the facility through the placement of a banner that heralds the
event. The administrative approval cannot exceed 60 days in any given year; thus,
Commission approval is essential for the banner to continue to hang until the construction
is substantially underway.
