RESOLUTION NO. 9 9 - 128
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF CRIME STOPPERS OF
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF
$10,000; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE
LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NOS.
690001, 690002 AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURE
HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE
AS COMPLYING WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF THE
TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING° AND
FLORIDA STATUTE, SECTION 932.7055, AS
AMENDED.
WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department supports community
programs such as Crime Stoppers of Miami -Dade County, Inc. that
involve citizen participation in fighting and curtailing
community and neighborhood crime; and
WHEREAS, funding from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund will be
used by Crime Stoppers for rewards in its successful crime tip
line program which, to date, has assisted in clearing more than
18,015 criminal cases, making 4,465 arrests, solving 436
homicides and recovering more than $72 million in stolen property
and narcotics; and
WHEREAS, funds for this expenditure were not included in the
Police Department's normal operating budget and are available

from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police recommends adoption of* this
resolution and has certified that the proposed expenditures
comply with the Department of the Treasury "Guide to Equitable
Sharing" and Florida Statute, Section 932.7055, as amended;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. Funding of Crime Stoppers of Miami -Dade
County. Inc., in the amount of $10,000, is hereby authorized,
with funds therefor hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law
Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Nos. 690001, 690002, and 690003,
such expenditure having been approved by the Chief of Police as
complying with the Department of the Treasury "Guide to Equitable
Sharing" and Florida Statute, Section 943.7055, as amended.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective

immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor1I.

If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at
the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If
the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately
upon override of the veto by the City Commission.

RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing funding, in the amount of $10,000, to Crime Stoppers of Miami -Dade County, Inc.
Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001,
690002 and 690003.
BACKGROUND
The Miami Police Department supports programs such as Crime Stoppers of Miami -Dade County,
Inc. This is a community program that allows citizens the opportunity to become involved in the
fight against crime and assists the entire community in removing criminals from our streets. This
contribution will be used as a funding source by Crime Stoppers to pay rewards for anonymous
tips. Since its inception in 1981, Crime Stoppers of Miami -Dade County, Inc., has helped clear
18,015 cases, make 4,465 arrests, solve 436 homicides and recover over $72 million in
property/narcotics.
