FLORIDACAmB INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM 1 TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission FROM: (onald H. Warshaw City Manager RECOMMENDATION DATE: JAN 1 5 1999 SUBJECT: Proposed Resolution REFERENCES: Youth of America, Inc. ENCLOSURES: FILE - It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing funding, in the amount of $35,000.00, for the Youth of America, Inc. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002 and 690003. BACKGROUND The Miami Police Department supports positive youth programs such as the Youth of America, Inc. This organization works with underprivileged children, who are mostly without supervision and need positive role models. To compensate for this void in the children's life, the organization uses adult volunteers to interact with them. The volunteers provide counseling in matters concerning alcohol abuse, crime prevention, family, good health and hygiene, as well as tutoring services. The children receive tangible incentives, encouragement and positive reinforcement; which promote civic behavior in spite of adverse social and economic conditions. -15W DHW:WEO:Imr 99— 60 7$,,}taruu.mn >.w ,, "3'SiT$ d;s?Mtk ,,.•t*.r _ 'i.SS'Jatn/"u 11'` A, ie't,5.4ya 7 n'to-rfi4°w dL3 z1E { 4ri 1 t 'K CITY OF MIAMI.
