HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-99-0021J-99-1 12/9/98 RESOLUTION NO. 5 9 401 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE DADE-MIAMI CRIMINAL JUSTICE COUNCIL, IN AN ,AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $35,000.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NUMBERS 690001, 690002, AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA STATUTE, SECTION 932.7055, AS AMENDED, AND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING." WHEREAS, Florida Statute, Section 932.7055, as amended, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing", authorize the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department supports the endeavors of the Dade -Miami. Criminal Justice Council; and WHEREAS, the Council researches and writes grant applications and assists in formulating policies and procedures for municipal law enforcement agencies; and WHEREAS, news stories and articles for the law enforcement professional are written by the Council and appear regularly in law enforcement publications; and WHEREAS, the Council is funded by contributions from municipal police departments and other governmental agencies in cm OOVOWS101f MEE'TUIC OF JA N 1 2 11399 Resoluticm Na. n� the law enforcement profession; and WHEREAS, funds to cover this expenditure are available from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with Florida Statute 932.7055, as amended, and the U.S. Department of. the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding of the Dade -Miami Criminal Justice Council, in an amount not to exceed $35,000, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended and the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing." Section 3. FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM RECOIVIMENDA'TION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing funding, in the amount of $35,000.00, for the Dade -Miami Criminal Justice Council. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002. and 690003. BACKGROUND The Miami Police Department supports the goals of the Dade -Miami Criminal Justice Council. The recommended funding will pay for the equivalent of a full-time professional planner position for the 1998-1999 Fiscal Year. The planners prepare grant applications for the member departments; and are also responsible for conducting research studies and writing papers on topics of interest to the Law Enforcement Community.
