It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached
Resolution authorizing the City Manager to apply for a Highway Beautification
Grant from the Florida Department of Transportation.
BACKGROUND
The owners of the Paseos shopping mall have expressed a desire to improve the
median and parkway area of Coral Way at approximately SW 34 Avenue with
landscaping, and have donated a landscaping plan, prepared by a Landscape
Architect, for the project. Since Coral Way, State Road No. 972, is under the
jurisdiction of the Florida Department of Transportation, funding for up to 50
percent of the cost of the project is available from the State of Florida Highway
Beautification Grant program. The owners of Paseos have agreed to fund the
remaining portions of the project and have agreed to perform all maintenance of
the landscaping.
The attached Resolution authorizes the City manager to apply for a Highway
Beautification Grant with the Florida Department of Transportation for this
project.
