Teele, Jr. FROM: Commissioner District 5 BACKGROUND: DATE : September 21, 1999 FILE SUBJECT: Resolution for support for the Florida State 9th Annual Civil Rights Conf. Florida Chapter of the National Association of Human Rights Workers The Florida Association of Community Relations Professionals, The Florida Commission on Human relations and the Miami Dade county Equal Opportunity Board has united to attract human relations professionals from the public and private sector and business leaders to discuss issues in Police/Community Relations, Minority Business Enterprises, Education, EEO and Human Resources and Housings. The Festival is designed to celebrate the diversity of Miami -Dade County. This conference will also bring support to the National Conference for Community and Justice's Youth Leadership Education Programs in the City of Miami. The budget request for support is as follows: For police support the Walk-a-Thon is $1500 For police support for the Festival is $500 For Fire rescue for the Festival is $600 RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City of Miami Commission adopt a Resolution to become a co-sponsor of the Florida State 9th Annual Civil Rights Conference November 6-10, 1999, being held at the Wyndham Hotel in downtown Miami. Further that the Manager presents a report at the Commission meeting on Tuesday, October 1 Ith recommending an appropriate level and type of support that the City can offer as a Co -Sponsor.
