The administration recommends that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution
authorizing the City Manager to accept a Special Warranty Deed, in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, from the Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") for the conveyance of Lot 1,
Block 2, of Sost's Subdivision, as recorded in Plat Book B, Page 27, of the Public Records of
Miami -Dade County, Florida (the "Property"). This Resolution further authorizes the City
Manager to execute any and all documents necessary to accept this deed.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Miami acquired the Property from Miami -Dade County on August 20, 1975. The
deed of conveyance from the County required the City to develop the Property as a park and
recreation facility.
At the time the Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") was created, the City conveyed
several City -owned. lots located within the CRA boundaries to the CRA. The Property, which is
part of an existing park commonly known as the Theodore Gibson Park, was inadvertently
conveyed to the CRA.
At its meeting of November 20, 2000, the CRA adopted Resolution Nos. 00-124 and 00-63
authorizing the conveyance of the Property back to the City.
This lot is needed by the City in connection with a lease the City Commission approved on
October 26, 2000 with the Overtown Youth Center, Inc., a Florida non-profit corporation, for the
construction, development and management of a youth center that will provide public
educaa4onal and recreational opportunities, at no cost, to inner City youth and their families.
