A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
APPOINTING AN INDIVIDUAL AS A MEMBER OF THE
CIVIL SERVICE BOARD FOR A TERM AS DESIGNATED
HEREIN.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Commission -at -Large hereby appoints the
following individual as a member of the Civil Service Board, for
a term expiring on January 27, 2002:
Mariano Cruz
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of October, 2000.
THIS ADMINISTRATIVE ACT SHALL
BECOME EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.'

Subject to the approval of the City Commission, the Civil Service Board was created to adopt,
amend and enforce a code of rules and regulations which shall have the force and effect of law,
providing for appointment and employment in all positions in the classified service, based on
merit, efficiency, character, and industry; and to make investigations concerning -the enforcement
and effect of this article and of the rules adopted; and shall make an annual report to the
Commission.
• The City Commission at -large has one (1) appointment to make for vacant seat created
because Robert Frazier passed on July 7, 2000. Mr. Frazier had been elected by employees
who hold Civil Service status. Charter Sec. 36(a) states that any vacancy of the Civil Service
Board shall be filled by the Commission for the unexpired term.
For your information, attached please find a copy of the current membership of said board. By
copy of this memorandum to the Agenda Office, we are requesting that this issue be placed on the
October 26, 2000 Commission agenda. This issue was deferred from the July 27`� and September
14, 2000 meetings.

This is to advise you that elected Civil Service Board Member Robert Frazier passed suddenly
on July 7, 2000.
As per the City of Miami Charter, the City Commission must appoint an individual to fill Mr.
Frazier's vacant seat for the remainder of his term. Due to the backlog of cases currently
pending before the Civil Service Board, 1 am requesting that you place this request for
appointment of a Board Member on the July 27, 2000 City Commission meeting agenda.
