A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO, WITH THE PERMISSION AND COOPERATION OF THE PRESIDENT OF FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ("FIU"), CONDUCT A STUDY TO DETERMINE AND RECOMMEND TO THE FLORIDA BOARD OF REGENTS A POTENTIAL CAMPUS SITE IN THE CITY OF MIAMI DOWNTOWN AREA FOR THE FIU COLLEGE OF LAW WHICH HAS BEEN AUTHORIZED BY THE STATE LEGISLATURE. WHEREAS, the State Legislature during the 2000 Spring Session authorized two new law colleges as part of the State University System at Florida International University in Miami ("FIU") and Florida A&M University to increase minority representation in the legal profession; and WHEREAS, an ideal location for the FIU College of Law campus is in the downtown area of the City of Miami due to the proximity t of the numerous cultural facilities that have been constructed or are planned to be constructed, as well as the transportation accessibility afforded the citizenry of Miami -Dade and Broward Counties; and WHEREAS, it is the City Commission's desire that the City Manager, along with the participation of the Downtown Development CITY COIMIMISSION MEETING OF. 0 CT 1 2 2000 Resolution No. 00— Authority, the University of Miami, and FIU, study and determine a potential downtown site for the location of the campus and recommend said sites to the Board of Regents of the State University System of Florida; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby directed to, with the permission and cooperation of the President of FIU, to conduct a study to determine and recommend to the. Florida Board of Regents a potential campus site in the City of Miami downtown area for the FIU College of Law which has been authorized by the State Legislature. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.1/ �i If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
