RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
RELATED TO THE OVERTOWN COME ALIVE -Y2K,
HOSTED BY THE OVERTOWN COMMUNITY OPTIMIST
CLUB, TO BE HELD ON AUGUST 18-20, 2000 AT
THEODORE GIBSON PARK, LOCATED AT 401
NORTHWEST 12TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA;
AUTHORIZING CO-SPONSORSHIP OF THE EVENT BY
THE CITY AND THE WAIVER OF ALL FEES
PERMISSIBLE BY THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
LIMITED TO, THE USE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF
PARKS AND RECREATION'S STAGE AND SOUND
EQUIPMENT FOR SAID EVENT, WITH SAID
AUTHORIZATIONS CONDITIONED UPON THE
ORGANIZERS: (1) PAYING FOR ALL OTHER
NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND
APPLICABLE FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT;
(2) OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY
IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY
MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE; (3) ADVISING ALL
ADJACENT BUSINESSES, PROPERTY OWNERS, AND
RESIDENTS OF STREET CLOSURES OF NORTHWEST 3RD
AVENUE, FROM NORTHWEST 11TH STREET TO
NORTHWEST 14TH STREET; AND (4) COMPLYING WITH
ALL CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS AS MAY BE
PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS
DESIGNEE; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER
TO FACILITATE THE MINIMALIZATION OF THE COST
OF CITY SERVICES.
WHEREAS, the Overtown Community Optimist Club will be
hosting the Overtown Come Alive -Y2K festival at the Theodore
Gibson Park, August 18-20, 2000; and

WHEREAS, the three-day festival invites the community to
participate in a variety of activities and services for a
fundraiser for expenses to provide programs and services for the
children and residents of this community, which includes actives
such as a 5k run/walk, Sports Marathon consisting of basketball,
football, track and field events, carnival games and rides for
children;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The waiver of all fees permissible by the
Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, including, but
not limited to the use of the Department of Parks and
Recreation's stage and sound equipment, is hereby authorized for
the Overtown Come Alive -Y2K festival, hosted by the Overtown
Community Optimist Club, to be held at Theodore Gibson Park
August 18-20, 2000
Section 3. The City will co-sponsor the event and waive
all fees permissible by the Code of the City of Miami, Florida
and the herein authorizations are hereby conditioned upon the
organizers (1) paying for all other necessary costs of City
services and applicable fees associated with said event; (2)
obtaining insurance to. protect. the City in the amount as
prescribed by the city manager or his. designee; (3) advising all

adjacent businesses, property owners, and. residents of street
closures of Northwest 3rd Avenue, from Northwest lith Street to
Northwest 14th Street; and (4) complying with all conditions and
limitations as may be prescribed by the city manager or his
designee.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature.of the Mayor.l'
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of July 2000.

�i If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at
the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
