RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
AUTHORIZING A CONTRIBUTION TO THE NEW BETHEL
BAPTIST CHURCH SUMMER CAMP YOUTH PROGRAM, AND
ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT
TO EXCEED $5,000, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT
TRUST FUND, PROJECT NUMBERS 690001, 690002,
AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN
APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING
WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF _THE TREASURY'S
"GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING," AND SECTION
932.7055, FLORIDA STATUTES, AS AMENDED.
WHEREAS, the U.S.' Department of the Treasury "Guide to
Equitable Sharing" and Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes, as
amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture cash or
I- proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered
normal operating expenses; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department is committed to the education
and development of the youth of the community; and
WHEREAS, the New Bethel Baptist Church Summer Camp Youth
Program (the "Program") provides at -risk youth with daily
workshops, round table discussions and study sessions pertaining
to subject matters such as drugs, crime, dating, AIDS, parenting,
health care and conflict resolution; and

WHEREAS, the funds will be used to assist with the expenses
related to the Program.; and
WHEREAS, the funds to cover this expenditure have not been
included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and
are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund;
and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of
this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed
comply with the U.S. Department of the Treasury "Guide to
Equitable Sharing" and Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes, as
amended;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE.CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The contribution to the New Bethel Baptist
Church Summer Camp Youth Program, is hereby authorized, with
funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $5,000, hereby
allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund Project Numbers
690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditure having been approved

by the Chief of Police as complying with the U. S. Department of
the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing," and Section
932.7055, Florida Statutes, as amended.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.'/

If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at
the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.

Summer Camp Youth Program
ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing a contribution to the New Bethel Baptist Church's Summer Camp Youth Program, in
an amount not to exceed $5,000. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust
Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003.
BACKGROUND
The Miami Police Department supports programs such as those offered by the New Bethel Baptist
Church's Summer Camp Youth Program. Approximately 80 to 200 at -risk and/or truant kids, 5 to
17 years of age will participate in the summer youth program. Eighty-five percent of the youth are
from the Liberty City area. The program offers daily workshops, round table discussions, and
study sessions, as well as, educational and cultural field trips. Subject matters such as drugs,
crime, dating, AIDS, parenting, health care and conflict resolution are addressed.
