HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-00-0470J-00-497 5/25/00 D=0SIT TTT'T/lAT TTn 00— 470 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FROM ANY APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AND STATE AGENCY FOR THE EXPENSES INCURRED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI TO MAINTAIN THE PUBLIC PEACE, ORDER AND GENERAL WELFARE OF THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI CONCERNING THE CUSTODY AND ASYLUM OF ELIAN GONZALEZ; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS: RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICIALS. WHEREAS, the costs to maintain public peace and order related to issues concerning the custody and asylum of Elian Gonzalez have become overwhelming for the City of Miami and other local and State of Florida governmental entities; and WHEREAS, when controversies in the City of Miami are triggered by non local policies, the United States government and State of Florida should bear the burden of the costs to assure the public health and welfare of the citizens of the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY COMMISSION iMEETING OF MAY 2 5 2000 Resolution No. Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby directed to request reimbursement from any appropriate federal and state agency for the expenses incurred by the City of Miami to maintain the public peace, order and general welfare of the citizens of the City of Miami concerning the custody and asylum of Elian Gonzalez or for any other asylum issues. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the appropriate federal and State agencies. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor'. �i If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
