HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-00-0443J-00-452 5/16/00 RESOLUTION NO. - 4 4 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING A CONTRIBUTION TO THE MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF DADE COUNTY, INC., "A WOMAN'S PLACE PROGRAM," AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $10,000, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NUMBERS 690001, 690002, AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING" AND FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing," and Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorize the expenditure of forfeited cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Mental Health Association of Dade County, Inc., "A Woman's Place Program" is the only day center for homeless and at -risk women and their children in the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, other services include case management, emergency shelter for women and their children, food, clothing, entitlements, vocational rehabilitation, employment hot line, education, and self-help groups; and CITY COPOESSION MEETING OF MAY 2 5 2000 Resolution No.., f } '- i • WHEREAS, funds to cover this expenditure have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The contribution to the Mental Health Association of Dade County, Inc., "A Woman's Place Program" is hereby authorized, with funds therefor, in the amount not to exceed $10,000, from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditure having been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statutes, 932.7055, as amended. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003. BACKGROUND The Mental Health Association of Dade County, Inc., program "A Woman's Place" is the only day center for homeless and at -risk women in the State of Florida. This program provides shelter for at -risk, transient, and homeless women and children. Services include case management, linking women and their children with emergency shelter, food, clothing, entitlements, vocation rehabilitation, employment hot line, education, and self-help groups.
