HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-00-0302J-00-282 4/3/00 RESOLUTION NO. � 0 — Z3 0 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING FUNDING OF NEAT STUFF, INC., AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $25,000, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NUMBERS 690001, 690002, AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING," AND FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, -CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Y Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorize the expenditure of forfeiture cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal. operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Police Department is committed to the education and development of the youth of the community; and WHEREAS, Neat Stuff, Inc., a volunteer run, not for profit organization, provides new and appropriate clothing to more than 3,000 abused and abandoned children living in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, this funding will assist Neat Stuff, Inc., to expand its apprentice program, increase its hours of operation, prepare more teenagers for gainful employment and reach out to include more children in need; and CITY COSSIPW� MEETING OF APR 1 3 2000 Resolution No. is l ,.i WHEREAS, funds for this expenditure have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing," and Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding of Neat Stuff, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $25,000, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, such expenditures having been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended and the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing." k -)U Page 2 of 3 Section 3. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the. attached Resolution, authorizing funding of Neat Stuff, Inc., and allocating funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $25,000.00. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003. BACKGROUND The Miami Police Department supports organizations such as Neat Stuff, Inc. This organization provides free new .and appropriate clothing, toys, books, and other accessories for over 3,000 abused and abandoned children who live in the City of Miami in State supported foster care. Neat Stuff, Inc., will use this contribution to: 1) increase hours of operation, 2) expand their apprentice program, and 3) to expand and increase their outreach to include every child in distress in our city.
