RESOLUTION NO. 0 275
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
URGING THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF
FLORIDA TO ENACT AN AMENDMENT TO §125.9194
AND §212.0306, F.S. (1999), WHICH, IF
ADOPTED, WILL AUTHORIZE CITIES IN MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY TO COLLECT THE HOTEL AND RESTAURANT
TAX IMPOSED BY MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PURSUANT TO
STATUTE FROM CERTAIN NEW HOTELS AND
RESTAURANTS; EXPRESSING THE MIAMI CITY
COMMISSION'S RESOLUTE INTENT TO UTILIZE THE
REVENUES TO PROMOTE THE CITY OF MIAMI;
FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT
A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN
DESIGNATED OFFICIALS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") contributes a majority
of the transit, lodging and food and beverage taxes to Miami -Dade
County; and
WHEREAS, the City is in need of the additional tax revenues
to strengthen the infrastructure to make the city more tourist
friendly; and
WHEREAS, the City is a major tourist destination and the
infrastructure must be bolstered to encourage additional tourism;
and
WHEREAS, the addition of the prospective $648,000 tax
revenue would greatly assist the City in attaining its tourism
goals and establish its own Tourist Development Authority;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
section 2. The legislature of the State of Florida is
hereby urged to enact to §125.9194 and §212.0306, F.S. (1999),
which, if adopted, will authorize cities in Miami -Dade County to
collect the hotel and restaurant tax imposed by Miami -Dade County
pursuant to statute from certain new hotels and restaurants.
Section 3. The Miami City Commission hereby expresses
its resolute intent to utilize the revenues to promote the City
of Miami.
Section 4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit
a copy of this Resolution to Governor Jeb Bush, the President of
the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of
Representatives, and all members of the Dade County Legislative
Delegation.

Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.1/

�i If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at
the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
