HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-00-0119J-00-80 1/28/00 RESOLUTION NO. 00,_ 1 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF MIAMI URBAN MINISTRIES "OASIS CAMP 2000 IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $5,280; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, FROM THE LAW 'ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NOS. 690001, 690002, AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING," AND FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing," and Florida State Statute 932.7055,!' as amended, authorize the expenditure of forfeiture cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Police Department is committed to the education and development of the youth of the community; and WHEREAS, the Miami Urban Ministries has developed "Oasis Camp 2000," a program for inner city children that offers positive experiences in the development of leadership qualities, recreational and physical development, social awareness, and spiritual development; and WHEREAS, the camp is scheduled to be held on March 31 -April 3, 2000 and will focus on the use of non-violence CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF FF® j 0 2000 Resolution No. in resolving conflicts, the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, multiculturalism and diversity and self-esteem; and WHEREAS, funds for this expenditure have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and area available from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with the U.S.* Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing," and Florida State Statutes 930.7055, as amended, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The funding for the Miami Urban Ministries Youth Program, "Oasis Camp 2000," in an amount not to exceed $5,280, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Nos. 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditures having been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with the U.S. C 0 �. t.. CA -9 DATE: JAN 2 v L':;v SUBJECT: Proposed Resolution FILE : REFERENCES: Miami Urban Ministries Youth ENCLOSURES: Program; Oasis Camp 2000 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing funding, in the amount of $5,280, to the Miami Urban Ministries Youth Program, "Oasis Camp 2000". Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001, 690002, and 690003. BACKGROUND The Miami Police Department supports youth .programs such as those offered by the Miami Urban Ministries. This organization has developed a city wide youth program, called "OASIS", which offers positive experience for youth in the areas of leadership development, recreational/physical development, social awareness, and spiritual development. The camp, to be held March 31- April 3, 2000, will focus on the use of non-violence to resolve conflict, dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, multiculturalism and diversity and self-esteem.
