RESOLUTION NO. 00— 16
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF BARAGUA JUDO KAI,
INC., IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $7,820;
ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE LAW
ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NOS. 690001,
690002 AND 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING
BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS
COMPLYING WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE
TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING," AND
FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS
AMENDED.
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to
Equitable Sharing," and Florida State Statute 932.7055, as
amended, authorize the expenditure of forfeiture cash or proceeds
for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal
operating expenses; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department is committed to the education
and development of the youth of the community, and
WHEREAS, Baragua Judo Kai, Inc. program promotes physical
fitness, discipline and respect for .others through the practice
of Judo; and
WHEREAS, funds will be used to provide judo scholarships to
20 at -risk children ages 10 years and older from the following
schools: Citrus Grove Elementary, Kensington Park Elementary,
Rockway Middle School and Flagami Elementary; and

WHEREAS, funds for this expenditure have not been included
in the Police Department's normal operating budget and are
available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of
this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed
comply with the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to
Equitable Sharing," and Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as
amended,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and. findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The funding of Baragua Judo Kai, Inc., in an
amount not to exceed $7,820, is hereby authorized, with funds
therefor hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund,
Project Nos. 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditure having
been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with the U. S.
Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing," and
Florida State Statutes 93,2.7055, as amended.

Section 3.This Resolution shall become effective immediately,
upon adoption and signature of the Mayor.'/
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of February , 2000.

1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective
at the end of the ten calendar days from the date it was passed and
adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.

It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing a contribution to the Baragua Judo Kai, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $7,820.
Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Numbers 690001,
690002, and 690003.
BACKGROUND
The Miami Police Department is committed to the education and development of our youth. The
Baragua Judo Kai, Inc. program promotes physical fitness, discipline and respect for others
through the practice of Judo. These funds will provide Judo scholarships to twenty (20) at -risk
youths, ages 10 years and older. The children will be chosen from the following schools located in
the City of Miami: Citrus Grove Elementary, Kensington Park Elementary, Rockway Middle
School, and Flagami Elementary.
